Education

The Association of Hawaii Archivists Education Committee serves to seek out, plan, and coordinate continuing education events for AHA members. Events include Digital Archivist Specialist (DAS) and Arrangement & Description (A&D) certificate program webinars and live workshops coordinated through the Society of American Archivists (SAA), and preparation for the Certified Archivist (CA) exam.

Save the Date: Fall Preservation Workshops

Textile Preservation with Linda Hee

When: September 22, 9:00 am- 12:00 pm

Where: UH Manoa Hamilton Library Moir Reading Room

This workshop will cover textiles (quilts, flat textiles, probably not costumes or upholstered furniture), bark cloth (tapa), and feather work (lei, cloaks, kahili).

Instructor Bio: Hee has a BFA in Fine arts from UH Manoa and MS in Art Conservation from University of Delaware/ Winterthur Museum. Major specialty- textiles. Minor- paper and organic objects.

She was employed at the Bishop Museum from 1988-1995. Private Practice 1995-present.

Workshop enrollment is limited to 16 participants.

Disaster Preparedness/Emergency Response/IPM with Malia Van Heukelem

When: October 20, 9:00 am- 12:00 pm

Where: UH Manoa Hamilton Library Moir Reading Room

This workshop will cover an introduction to disaster planning and response for collections. It will be split between a presentation with questions and answers with a brief hands on salvage exercise.

Instructor Bio: Malia was hired last December as Art Archivist Librarian for the Jean Charlot Collection and the Archive of Hawaii Artists & Architects, at the University of Hawaii. Previously, she was a preservation management specialist at Hamilton Library and collections manager for both the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts’ Art in Public Places Program and ‘Iolani Palace.

Workshop enrollment is limited to 15 participants.
